How to Conduct a Successful Interview
May 15, 2020
On this episode of Ezoic Explains, Whitney walks you through how to properly prepare and conduct an interview. As a former journalist, Whitney has done many interviews and more recently has hosted panels at Ezoic's Pubtelligence events at Google.
1) Research the person or the topic they will be discussing
2) Come up with questions based on the story you want to tell
3) Be flexible during the interview
4) Make sure they know when/where/time to meet you, whether that is online or in person. If there is technology involved, does everything work before the interview?
5) Inform the interviewee if the interview is more formal or relaxed
6) Open up the conversation naturally before divining into questions
7) If you need notes with you, feel free to bring them along
8) How to deal with tangents and rabbit holes
9) Actively listen to the interviewee
10) Humor is usually okay and actually welcomed
11) Make sure you thank them
12) Close the interview with an open door
