One Helpful Tool in Transcribing Your Videos

In this video, Whitney walks you through how to use diycaptions.com to transcribe your video and enhance and create content.
Diycaptions.com is a free site that allows you to paste URLs of videos and interact with the transcriptions in four different ways.
You can easily copy and paste video URLs into the tool and then select one of four options for transcription.
The first selection is called Captions Grabber, which transcribes the whole video for you. There is no punctuation or split between speakers, however, so you will still have to go through and parse through the content.
The section option is called HyperScribr. This allows you to actually go in and edit the content. Simply click on a section of content, and it will begin playing that section of the video. What’s nice is that when you click a section of text to work on, the video will play that section of content but pause at the end, so you can better understand and transcribe any errors.
The third option is to open the Transcription Pad. This section allows you to type out the transcription yourself as the video is playing, You can also skip through sections of the video here at the top.
The fourth option is to open the video in oTranscribe. This version also allows you to type out the transcription as it is playing, but sets it up in a bit more of a friendly way. What’s nice about this version is that you can slow down how fast the video plays so you can better keep up with the transcription as you type. This version also has bold and italic and you can add in timestamps.
You could use a transcription service like this for multiple things. The first way you could use it is to transfer the video content into a blog. We often use video transcriptions as an outline for a written version of the video content.
You could also use the transcription to add descriptions in the description section of your YouTube video. It is good YouTube practice to be descriptive under your video to give viewers more details and insight into what you are saying. You can copy and paste sections of the transcription to provide these details to viewers.
If you’re active on social media, you could use short snippets of content from your transcription on Twitter or as Instagram captions. Something we do here at Ezoic is get on Quora and see how we can provide expert insight into people’s questions about the digital publishing industry.
